    Performance Evaluation of Parallel Haemodynamic Computations on Heterogeneous Clouds

    The article presents performance evaluation of parallel haemodynamic flow computations on heterogeneous resources of the OpenStack cloud infrastructure. The main focus is on the parallel performance analysis, energy consumption and virtualization overhead of the developed software service based on ANSYS Fluent platform which runs on Docker containers of the private university cloud. The haemodynamic aortic valve flow described by incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is considered as a target application of the hosted cloud infrastructure. The parallel performance of the developed software service is assessed measuring the parallel speedup of computations carried out on virtualized heterogeneous resources. The performance measured on Docker containers is compared with that obtained by using the native hardware. The alternative solution algorithms are explored in terms of the parallel performance and power consumption. The investigation of a trade-off between the computing speed and the consumed energy is performed by using Pareto front analysis and a linear scalarization method

    Šiame darbe analizuojami lygiagrečių skaičiavimų principai, pagrindinės MPI funkcijos, leidžiančios šiuos principus taikyti sprendžiant uždavinius kompiuterių tinkle, analizuojami klasikiniai lygiagretūs uždaviniai bei jų sprendimas naudojant kompiuterių tinklus. Ypatingas dėmesys skirtas tiesinių lygčių sistemų lygiagrečiam sprendimui, uždavinių su matricomis lygiagretinimui, analizuota skaičiaus π apytikslė paieška klasikiniais lygiagrečių kompiuterių testavimo algoritmais. Buvo atlikti eksperimentai su kompiuterių tinkle esančiu skirtingu kompiuterių skaičiumi, skirtingų tinklų tipais, kurių metu buvo siekiama nustatyti kompiuterių tinklų efektyvumą bei palyginti juos tarpusavyje. Išanalizavus eksperimentų metu gautus rezultatus nustatyta, kad lygiagrečius skaičiavimus prasminga atlikti su kompiuterių tinklu, kurio pralaidumas yra didesnis nei 100 Mb. Ne visi lygiagretūs algoritmai duoda mums gerą pagreitėjimą ir efektyvumą. Taip pat užduoties atlikimo pagreitėjimas labai priklauso nuo pradinių duomenų.The principles of parallel computing and functions of package MPI, which was used in experiments, are analyzed this work. Classic parallel tasks and their solution using computer networks are also investigated. Special attention was given to parallel solution of system of linear equation and paralleling of tasks with matrixes. The approximate search of π by classic parallel algorithms was also analyzed. Series of experiments using computer networks with different number of computers and different types of networks were performed. The purpose of the experiments was to establish efficiency of computer networks. The conclusion that there is a sense of parallel computing with computer network when transmision rate is more that 100 Mbit is a result of the experiments. Not all parallel algorithms give good speed-up and efficiency. Efficiency of computers network also depends on initial data.Švietimo akademijaVytauto Didžiojo universiteta

    In this paper, we present the progress of blockchain technology from the advent of the original publication titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System,” written by the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, until the current days. Historical background and a comprehensive overview of the blockchain technology are given. We provide an up-to-date comparison of the most popular blockchain platforms with particular emphasis given to consensus protocols. Additionally, we introduce a BlockLib, an extensively growing online library on blockchain platforms collected from the various sources and designed to enable contributions from the blockchain community. Main directions of the current blockchain research, facing challenges as well as the main fields of applications, are summarized. We also layout the possible future lines in the blockchain technology development

    In this paper, effective utilization of processors in computer cluster is investigated. Generally, a computer cluster is treated as a specially designed system only for solving specific computationally intensive and time consuming problems. Commonly, computers in offices and universities are idle for a considerable proportion of the time. Therefore, in this research, we focus on exploitation of such computational resources. The experimental investigationshows that when executing multiple processes in each CPU core allows to solve computationally intensive problems more precisely compared to the case, where the number of processes is equal to the number of CPU cores, meanwhile the same amount of energy is consumed in both cases.  Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas efektyvus procesorių panaudojimas kompiuterių klasteryje. Įprastai kompiuterių klasteris yra sukonstruojamas kaip vieningas unifikuotas kompiuterinis resursas, skirtas skaičiavimams imliems ir daug laiko reikalaujantiems uždaviniams spręsti. Tačiau dažnai įmonių biuruose, taip pat ir universitetuose kompiuteriai žymią paros dalį nėra naudojami. Tikslinga juos tuo metu išnaudoti sudėtingiems skaičiavimams atlikti. Eksperimentinis tyrimas parodė, kad vykdant keletą procesų viename procesoriaus branduolyje galima išspręsti skaičiavimams imlius uždavinius daug tiksliau, lyginant su atveju, kai vykdomų procesų skaičius lygus branduolių skaičiui. Be to, abiem atvejais išnaudojamas vienodas elektros energijos kiekis

    The authors study the process of digitalization in an organization, the impact on the competitiveness of personnel and leaders of organizations. The purpose of the study is to increase the competitiveness of managers who acquire competencies and new knowledge in the digitalization process. The paper highlights the elements of changes that digitalization brings to the organization. Research methods: systemic and structural-functional analysis, questioning, interviewing, expert assessments, statistical analysis, production experiment, timing and photography of working time. The information base of the study is public reports of leading transport companies; branch scientific and technical literature; materials of international, branch, territorial conferences, symposiums and seminars; results of application of author’s developments. Result: digitalization provides unhindered access to knowledge, cost reduction and greater interdisciplinarity, which is an obligation in external conditions of the society development
